The Stone in the Tree – A Troll Story from Fur
*In the garden of Karoline’s House lies a two-ton stone in a tree!
The question, of course, is:
“How did it end up there?”
Well, you see: up in the hills, the troll and his family live under the Grey Stone, and the troll loves to sleep late in the mornings. Especially on Sundays, when the whole family relaxes and enjoys their day off.
On Fur, the church bells ring particularly loudly on Sundays, and the sound reaches all the way up to the hills and the Grey Stone, disturbing the troll’s morning sleep – especially on Sundays.
Eventually, the troll had had enough. He fumed with rage, got up, and went out to find the largest stone he could. He intended to hurl it at the church tower to smash it and the bells so there would finally be peace, and he could sleep on Sunday mornings.
No sooner said than done – and the stone thundered from the hills toward the church in the lowlands.
Unfortunately, despite his furious rage, the troll didn’t have the strength to throw the stone all the way. So, it landed in a rowan tree at Ellen and Troels’ place in the garden of Karoline’s House, where it can still be seen to this day.
And that is the absolute truth – No living human has ever seen the troll, but a statue of him has been made, depicting how he is believed to look. It stands in the garden of the Fur Museum.
