Salling - a peninsula in the Limfjord

Salling is the largest peninsula in our region, located between the Limfjord to the south and Skive Fjord to the north. The peninsula boasts an impressive 190 km coastline, where you can experience everything from peaceful beaches and coastal cliffs to charming small fjords and harbor towns.

The area is perfect for hiking and cycling tours, where you can enjoy the beautiful views over the water and the surrounding nature. Sundsøre, Gyldendal, and Glyngøre are particularly worth mentioning as popular starting points for maritime experiences, whether you want to sail, fish, or simply enjoy a day by the water.

Salling is a fantastic place for families with children who want to spend time by the water. The peninsula offers several child-friendly beaches with calm waters and fine sandy shores. Visit, for example, Skive Strand, Resen Strand, Marienlyst Strand, Lyby Strand, and Gyldendal Strand.

For culture enthusiasts, Salling is also worth a visit. Here, you’ll find several historical attractions such as Spøttrup Castle, Denmark’s best-preserved medieval castle, as well as Skive Museum, where you can gain insight into the region’s history and culture. You shouldn’t miss Jeppe Aakjær’s artist home, Jenle, located in southern Salling.

Salling is not only known for its beautiful nature and fascinating cultural heritage but also for its rich arts and crafts scene. The peninsula is home to many talented artisans who create unique works inspired by the surrounding landscapes and local traditions. At almost all of them, you can explore and purchase unique artworks and also gain insights into the creative processes behind them. Visit, for example, Hf Keramik, Galleri Henriksen, or Glaspusteriet Gnist.

Salling also offers a range of exciting culinary experiences. Try, for instance, Brænderiet Limfjorden, a distillery where you can take a tour and learn about the production of their exclusive gins, schnapps, and liqueurs. Restaurant Limfjordens Hus is a gastronomic gem, located right by the water in Glyngøre, and is a modest gourmet restaurant focusing on high-quality local ingredients at very reasonable prices. You should also try Limfjordens Oyster Bar at Glyngøre Shellfish, which serves fresh, local oysters with views over the Limfjord.
